Description of holiday barn in Great Strickland, Lake District / North West

The 20 ft lounge with polished oak floor has a feature oak fireplace and log burning stove, perfect for cosy winter evenings. It has exposed beams and a panelled wall plus shutters at the
windows, which overlook the beautiful cottage garden.

For your entertainment, there is a television with Freeview and DVD player. In the sideboard you will find a radio/CD player and a selection of books, DVDs and games. For 2012 there is free WiFi and internet enabled TV.
 
You will find walking/cycling books for use during your stay and a range of tourist information and leaflets for places to visit to help plan your days.

The spacious dining kitchen also has an oak panelled wall and beams. It is fully fitted with fan assisted oven, halogen hob, fridge and dishwasher. The cupboards are well stocked with utensils to cater for all your self catering needs. In the utility area there is a microwave and washing machine.

The barn has oil fired central heating and a useful airing cupboard
with plenty of space for drying clothes. A tumble dryer is also provided in the garage.

There is also a downstairs cloakroom/WC.

The open oak staircase leads to the spacious first floor landing
where you will find 2 bedrooms and the family bathroom.

A modern oak panelled bathroom has a full-sized bath plus a separate shower cubicle, WC & washbasin. The bath is perfectly situated for star gazing through the skylight. Help yourself to the bubble bath!

The master bedroom has an oak panelled feature wall, beamed ceilings and skylight and has a sumptuous king size sleigh bed.

The second bedroom also has a beamed ceiling and skylight and has a double bed.

Both bedrooms have been simply yet tastefully furnished and have ample storage space. A hairdryer is provided for your use.
 
A choice of seasonal, hollow-fibre duvets are provided and beds are made up for your arrival.

To the rear of the barn is a private, enclosed rear garden for your enjoyment. Our guests are welcome to pick from the fruit trees, bushes and well stocked herb garden. South facing, it catches the sun all day and has two seating areas with garden furniture and a barbecue. Perfect for dining al fresco!
From here you can sit and watch the array of birdlife, including the swallows who return each year to nest.

There is a large garage where a vehicle plus bicycles can be stored.
Ample off road parking is available for 2 vehicles, next to the apple tree.

Towels may be hired at an additional cost of £5 per set.

Location description

Great Strickland is surrounded by spectacular scenery and an abundance of attractions and places to visit. The Steading is an ideal base for exploring the nearby Lake District, with Ullswater less than 10 miles away, and the beautiful, unspoilt Eden Valley. The Pennines are within close proximity and the Yorkshire Dales and Scottish Borders are a leisurely drive away.

The Strickland Arms is less than 5 minutes walk away from your accommodation. It serves local Jennings beer and offers an extensive menu. You will always be guaranteed a warm welcome from the landlords Anton and Penny. Also in the village there is an enclosed playground, St Barnabas Church, the village hall which holds regular events and a recycling station.

The nearest Post Office/village store is in Askam (2.5 miles)

The historic market town of Penrith is just 6 miles away and has a range of amenities including supermarkets, banks, restaurants, petrol stations, etc.
