Description of holiday apartment in Tavira, Algarve

This large duplex 2-bed 2-bath apt has approx 120sqm/1300sqft plus a furnished breakfast balcony off the lounge. Luxuriously and comprehensively equipped to accommodate 4 to 6 people, it is fully tiled and fully airconditioned; all windows have blackout curtains against the summer sun. The entrance opens directly onto the gardens. The dining room and the kitchen are off the lobby. From the lobby, steps lead down to the lounge and up to the bedrooms.
The master bedroom (double) is en suite, the second bedroom (twin) is beside the second bathroom. Both bedrooms have wardrobe, dressing table, bedside tables/lamps, etc. A hairdrier is also provided.
The comprehensively equipped kitchen includes 4-plate hob, oven, juicer, kettle, blender, coffeemaker, fridge/freexer, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. Iron and ironing board are provided.
The lounge has two couches, stools, etc. There is satellite Sky TV with BBC, ITV, CNN, SkyNews, etc plus a DVD/CD player. Guests have free access to the complex WiFi at Reception (the signal is also accessible in the lounge). The dining room seats six and includes a double sofabed suitable for two children or one adult; a campbed and/or a travel cot can also be provided. Travel cot and highchair provided FOC if requested when you reserve.
Linen and towels are changed, and the apt cleaned, each 6 to 8 days; intermediate clean, fresh towels each 3 to 4 days available as an option. You need to bring your own beach towels.
Tavira Garden is a family-friendly complex set in lush, mature gardens approx 15 mins walk from the Roman Bridge in the old town. There are two pools (each with adjacent kids pool). The main pool, adjacent to the restaurant area, is 20m x 10m and has a Caribbean-style poolside bar. There is a well equipped kids play area, a tennis court, a fully equipped gym, a boules court, picnic/BBQ areas, etc. Car hire is available on site or we can arrange for you before you travel. There is a large supermarket approx 300m from the complex and a shopping mall with cinemas, etc, at 700m.
A welcome pack is provided free on arrival.

Location description

Faro airport is 35km away; taxi transfer in 2011 is Euro 40,00. Inhabited since well before the birth of Christ, Tavira boasts Phoenician, Roman, Moorish, Crusader remains. An active fishing port, it has a wonderful variety of restaurants. The local town council arranges fairs, exhibitions, street theatre, folk music and dancing, a film festival, etc throughout the summer. Tavira Island has 8 miles of some of the best and least crowded beaches of the Algarve (and even a remote nudist beach). The surrounding Ria Formosa Nature Park is rich in flora, fauna, lepidoptera; you can just wander there or rnet bicycles, horses, etc. The nearby Guadiana Valley, the border with Spain, has several old walled towns reflecting the long rivalry between these two neighbours. You can tour by car or take a boat cruise up the Guadiana River to see these towns (with a leisurely lunch en route). The old city of Seville, a wonderful shopping and equestrian centre (we won't mention the bull fights) is 90 mins drive or express buses connect Tavira with Seville. A local train service (once an hour) connects Tavira with the towns of the Algarve coast from the Spanish border to Lagos in the west (and connects also with the high speed train from Faro to Lisbon). Train, bus and taxi fares in the Algarve are very inexpensive compared to UK.

Sailing, Surfing, Fishing, Horse-riding, Cycling, Kayaking, etc are all catered for in Tavira.
