Directions
Less than one hour from Lourdes & Pau airports (Ryan Air), around two hours from Toulouse, Biarritz or Bordeaux gives you a choice of routes by plane. Driving down from UK is possible but it's a long drive so an overnight stop half way is recommended.
Travelling here by road: Nearest autoroute is A64 Bayonne - Toulouse (Info-route 0 825 065) Plan your route with Mappy.com By Train: Nearest main train station is Tarbes with direct connections to Paris (Information and reservations 08 36 35 35 35) SNCF (French Railways) By Air:Airports: Biarritz (2 hrs), Toulouse (2 hrs), Bordeaux (2hrs), Pau (50 kms), and Tarbes-Lourdes (25 kms) Airlines: Ryanair, Easyjet, Air France, BA, and you can see an overview of them all at skyscanner. On your return home, you’ll be pleased (or may be not!) to know that all of the airports mentioned are well equipped with duty-free shopping, cafés, bars, newsagents, restaurants and boutique style shops.
Hiring a car for your holiday (if travelling by plane)
We recommend hiring a car for your stay as this will enable you to make the most of your holiday. Taxis are expensive and only plentiful at airports and in the larger towns in France. Buses are available but run mainly during school hours. A car would enable you to explore more of this fascinating area on your own schedule. Although you can hire a car from the airports once you land it makes more sense to arrange the hire car in advance of your stay to ensure availability of the type of car you would like. Just like all over France, car hire is painless and economical and once on the road you’ll discover that getting around is quite easy, even if you don’t speak French. Once you’ve booked we’ll send you detailed directions for you to find your way easily. The journey time depends from which airport you have chosen but can take from 45 minutes to two hours.
Prices and reservations for car hire at Toulouse, Biaritz, Bordeaux, Tarbes/Lourdes or Pau airports can be found on the websites of a number of global car hire companies, including Avis, Europcar and Budget.
