Location description

The apartment is located in Haute Nendaz within the 4 Vallies ski region, probably the largest ski area in Europe. The four valleys are Nendaz, Verbier to the right and Siviez and Veysonnaz to the left. Nendaz starts at 2200 meters rising to 3300 meters. With high snow- sure slopes it is suitable for everyone from beginners to off-piste mogul lovers!!

Nendaz in the past was very much a resort frequented by locals and visitors from Central Europe. More recently with Verbier reaching full capacity, the Ski Authorities started to invest very heavily in Nendaz transforming it from a sleepy back water to one of the best up and coming resorts. A new state of the art cable car ski lift (Tracouet) was built 50 meters from the apartment, now whisking you to the top in 15 minutes.

Virtually all the ski lifts have been replaced with the best and latest, putting Nendaz on a par with Verbier, but at substantially lower cost.

The meeting point at the top of the Ski Cabin is the perfect place to launch off to the various areas, in addition to being the location of one of the many Ski Schools. Here also are a number of great mountain restaurants with stunning views..........perfect for a simple meal or a warming vin chaud !

The easy wide open blue piste at the top of the mountain is perfect to find your snow legs, join the red half way down and ski back to the apartment, or take the lift up to Plan -du Fou for some heart stopping black runs with mogul fields to challenge the most able of skiers. From here you ski down to Tortin and take the lift up to Chassoure and ski the Verbier region, including the notorious Mont Fort at 3330m.

Outside the Tele Cabin near the apartment is a free bus to Siviez, which runs every 20 minutes. Siviez is a lovely hamlet with some of the best blue runs you will find anywhere along with a ski school. The main (very) blue at Siviez is 40-50 meters wide and probably about 3-4 miles long, just perfect for beginners. From Siviez you can also access the entire Veysonnaz and Thyon ski region or take the lift from Tortin across to Verbier.

Less than 3 minutes walk from the apartment (down the lane and turn right) is Neige Adventure, they run an excellent ski school , have great mountain guides and the most up to date ski equipment, both for hire and for sale. www.neige-adventure.ch . They offer a discount to our guests.

Other activities

The Valais region of Switzerland is truly the heart of the Alps - home to the country's highest peaks, extreme mountain terrain and renowned ski resorts. But, a visit to the region does not have to mean skiing, skiing and more skiing as, even in winter, there is plenty to do for the non-skiers.

Sion
just 15 minutes drive or bus ride from the apartment is the main town of Valais and the oldest town in Switzerland.It is the perfect place to explore castles, museums and surrounding vineyards and to experience some of the region's traditional festivals and events, such as Cow Fighting or 'Combats de reines'. The two castles perched on the hillside are truly spectacular, there are galleries and museums, Roman ruin s and the Friday market, full of local produce should not be missed!

Montreux
Montreux, sandwiched between the hillside vineyards and the glorious Lake Geneva is a wonderful place, an hour by train or car from the apartment. Castle Chilon, built in the 11th centaury and perched on the edge of the lake is an amazing place to visit. A trip on one of the paddle steamers around the lake, stopping at Lusanne is also great fun. The Christmas market in Montreux is perfect for gifts and the Montreux Jazz festival in July, fabulous!

Thermal Spas
You can also discovers the underground subterranean lake of Saint-Leonard, the largest underground navigable lake in Europe, as well as Leukerbad - the largest Alpine thermal spa center in Europe. Set amidst the fascinating Valais mountains at approx. 1,400 meters above sea level, Leukerbad is home to 22 thermal pools offering the perfect location for Alpine relaxation, and to ease the pains of a hard weeks skiing.

Mountain Biking
The region around the apartment has a number of dedicated cycle routes, during the summer months the lifts can carry you and your bike to the top of the mountain, from there you can cruise down the well marked routes, or for those with better muscles than me, cycle up as well as down!!! Golf
The Golf Club Sion golf is only 20 minutes by car from Nendaz. Located in the the heart of the Rhone valley, its 18-hole course benefits from a sunny and warm climate. The natural characteristics of the site have been preserved in order to offer a unique experience in a truly authentic setting.

Directions

Rail
Direct trains from France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland to Sion station. From Geneva Airport, walk through the airport and into the station. Trains run every hour, to Sion. From there either take a taxi or a regular bus service operates to Nendaz, ask for the Tele Cabin.

Fly/Rail Connections

Geneva (165km from Nendaz) is the nearest international airport and is about 1 hour 40mins drive by motorway. Direct connection can be made from Geneva Airport via the excellent train system to Sion from where a bus or taxi can be taken up to Haute Nendaz. Air/Train links information can be found HERE

Geneva airport is serviced by many airlines, including the budget operators Easyjet, BmiBaby and Jet2. Swiss Air, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM and others also offer competitive fairs from the UK. Flights to Sion (15km) are also available every Saturday during the winter season from London Heathrow airport - FLYBE.

Basel (260km), Zurich (285km) and also Bern and Milan offer reasonable routes from the UK that may be attractive if you are considering car hire in Switzerland.

By Road
Several motorway routings and channel crossing exist - take the A9 to Sion, exit Sion Ouest in the direction Nendaz. Follow for 15km to the resort centre signposted Haute Nendaz. Follow signs for the Tele Cabin, turn left just before the Tele Cabin, our apartment is 100m up the lane.

Note: to use the Swiss motorway network an obligatory fee called a “vignette” at CHF 40 (2006) is required and gives access to the whole motorway network for the year of purchase.
