Description of holiday apartment in Guillestre, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur

We are situated in the Haute-Alpes (05), close to the Durance Valley between Briançon and Embrun. Guillestre is a small but vibrant mountain village with all the necessary cafes, restaurants and commerce within walking distance of the chalet. The village sits between the 4000m Massif Des Ecrins, and the mountainous Ubaye and Queyras regions that form the border between France and Italy. The surrounding areas offer a wealth of opportunities to meet everyones´ needs; from those who seek excitement and adventure, to those who just want to relax and enjoy the ambiance.

The apartments are spacious and well equipped. The ground and middle floor apartments sleep eight people; both of which have three bedrooms – 2 twin rooms (which can be converted into doubles), a bunk room, and a double sofa bed in the main lounge area. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, shower-room with WC and separate WC.

These two apartments can be linked for large groups by use of internal stairs between them.

The top floor sleeps six and consists of two bedrooms- 1 double and 1 twin (which can be converted into a double). This room has an en-suite bathroom. There is a separate bathroom with WC, an open plan lounge with a double sofa-bed, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen.

Mountain Biking including bike parks and lift assisted downhill trails. Excellent whitewater kayaking and canoeing.Mountaineering and climbing. Walking. Sailing,rafting and watersports. Horse riding and treking. Paragliding, Winer mountaineering and world class ice climbing. Skiing, ski mountaineering and nordic skiing, ski de fond.

Local events

The area host a number of events throughout the year. A market is held each Monday in Guillestre and events in the small town squares throughout the summer months. Skier and bike riders will enjoy the La Risoul Dévale and the Raid Vauban; and the Tour de France visits the area most years. Kayakers and canoeist can visit the Rabioux River Rodeo and watch international events on the slalom couse at L'Argentière la Bessée. Guillestre is a convenient base to train for and compete in the Embrun Ironman. In the summer climbers meet for the Tout a Blocs bouldering competition and in winter the L'Argentiere Ice Climbing Festival (Ice climbing 2012)

The area is dotted with historical venues. Vaubans Mont Dauphin and Briancon. Chateau Queyras guarding the route through the mountains. The glaciers of the Ecrins and the huge Lac de Serre Poncon
