Description of holiday apartment in Gattieres, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur
THE CONTADOUR ( which means, the haunt of artists and writers) is a charming provençal villa built on 6 dry-stone terraces covered with olive trees, palm, mimosa, lemon, fig, and cherry. It stands 260 meters above the Var Valley river with extraordinary, uninterrupted views across the hills, river and sea beyond.
The apartment, which is really a wing of the villa, has been architectually designed to create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in rustic yet elegant surroundings. It is completely private, with separate entrance and has its own lovely terraces in which to dine out under the ancient olive trees.
Within the grounds is a beautiful pool surrounded by exotic plants and a stone poolhouse with built-in BBQ. A bar complete with fridge, and a pizza oven, plus soft outdoor lighting, completes the scene. Guests are free to use the pool and facilities, whenever they like; we, as resident retired owners, shqre the pool but with discression so that your privacy is observed at all times.
Inside the apartment you will enter from the garden terrace into the kitchen: this is fully equipped with every modern convenience such as dishwasher, microwave oven, washing machine, large fridge-freezer, electric hob, oven, kettle, blender, a baby's bottle warmer, a wine cooler (of course!) and even a teapot!!
Through a large archway you will enter the sitting-room which is a large, charming beamed room, with french windows opening onto a south-facing balcony with incredible views down the valley. It is very bright and comfortable. A large punka, or ceilling fan keeps the air cool all summer. There are a number of lovely mahogany antiques to add to your comfort, and the walls are adorned with original art works by Madam who is a professional artist.
For your entertainment, there is a TV with satellite channels in all languages, a video + DVD player including a large library of the latest films, plus numerous board games, and a library of English books. For those of you who cannot be parted from his laptop, we have access to the internet via WiFi.
Down the corridor, is the main bedroom which has a very large, comfortable double bed or one can opt for two singles. Again, french windows open onto the balcony with superb views south: you will be woken to the sound of bird song on many occasions.
Opposite, is a very attractive, modern shower room and toilet with thick luxurious towels.
Next to the bathroom is a large dressing area with lots of hanging and storage space.
The second, very attractive bedroom again sleeps two, having separate single beds. It is beautifully cool in summertime.
In fact, the villa is so perfect - you may never want to leave!

Location description
The Medieval village of Gattieres is an easy 10 walk from the villa and has 3 excellent restaurants and bars, plus a supermarket, pharmacy,newsagent, and a very good bakery where you can sip your morning coffee and watch the village life evolve. There are very few foreign residents, and so retains it's authenticity.
Gattieres is extremely well-situated to visit not only the local mountain villages, but also Cannes, St Tropez, Nice, Monaco, Antibes, and even Italy, only a 50 min. drive away!
The Mercator National Park is a short drive away with its wonderful flora and fauna, waterfalls, and even a wolf-park! For those who love walking, or cycling, it is a perfect retreat: and for simply unwinding after a long day's sightseeing, nowhere could be lovelier!

Directions
Many budget airlines fly into Nice from most of Europe. EasyJet from UK or Paris. TGV train from Paris to Nice. Car hire available from Nice airport- Hertz, Budget, or Europcar; A car is recommended. Bus service exists but is infrequent.
Local buses serve the village of Gattieres and surrounds.
Fast approach using the A8 motorway and exiting at junction 52 St Isidor and taking direction Digne, then Carros, then Gattieres. Driving time approx. 15-20 mins.
